#7 What I learned this week (13 Dec 2024)
The colour of the year, climate defensive homes, low pitch roof detailing, 'chairdrobes'...
Things I learned this week…
The Pantone colour of the year is Mocha Mousse 🤷♀️
Sarah Lebner from Cooee Architecture has compiled a super useful set of recommendations for designing a climate defensive home.
I’ve been diving deep into some detailing for a low pitch roof (with a parapet) and considering best ways to prevent against water ingress and also provide sufficient ventilation for condensation management. This has meant exploring various Proclima resources (like the construction details library and the FlatHERO Low Pitch Roofing application guide. Jess Allen at Climasure has been super helpful in providing guidance and examples too. Importantly I learned that Proclima products are not warrantied at less than 2° pitch.
With the recent commencement of many of the NCC2022 provisions in South Australia (from 1 October 2024), I’ve been getting my head around the transitional arrangements to confirm how current/planned projects are impacted.
Things to share…
The Australian Passivhaus Association has opened registrations for its 1-day Intro to Passivhaus course coming up in Adelaide and Melbourne in early 2025.
I love the chairdrobe! [HT to Sarah Lebner for sharing this one.] As well as loving the chair itself, I also think the video makes a great point about designing for how you actually live and use spaces (not for some fantasy aspirational version of yourself!).
Sanctuary house profiles are great! This one from the latest magazine provides some great inspiration for anyone looking at retrofitting on a budget.
The house that’s got me oohhing and aahhing this week is the Harry Passivhaus.
