Learning and sharing (10 January 2025)
Back into 2025... new podcast suggestions, in/out lists, and mid-century architectural inspo!
The kids are still on holidays (and many of our team (and suppliers) are too) so I’ve just been easing myself back into work this week!
Here are a few things that I’ve learned or that I thought were worth sharing…
Big thanks to the Undercover Architect, Amelia Lee, for including The Build Notebook in the list of ‘11+ online resources for a well-planned project’ that she shared in a recent UA News email newsletter. Many of these resources I knew about, but there were some new ones there that I look forward to checking out and following. If you’re planning a renovation or new build project, one of the best things you can do is check out Amelia’s amazing resources (podcast, blog, courses, social media).
Congratulations to Jess Kismet on the launch this week of the Building Sciology Poddie. In this podcast Jess plans to bring together her expertise in building science (plus her new studies in building biology) to discuss building better, healthier homes.
I’m loving the recent trend of in/out lists for 2025. A few of my favourite companies have jumped on board and shared theirs on social media. Have a look at where Light House ArchiScience, Carland Constructions, and Envirotecture are focusing their energy and attention this year.
A couple of products I’ve recently learned about… REDCOR weathering steel as a facade material (thanks to Envision Building for sharing a recent picture from one of their projects), and Thermory thermally modified wood.
I’ve been admiring Josh Crosbie Architects’ work on Instagram, so was delighted to discover there is a collection of photos from completed projects on Pinterest. My fave is this mid-century coastal home in Lorne.
It’s not directly related to the residential construction topics I usually post about, but I did think this 3D mapping tool to track Adelaide metropolitan development activity was pretty cool.
