More beach shack love, plus resources for considering flood and fire resilience....
This week’s wrap up of things that have caught my attention….
My infatuation with beach shacks continues… I borrowed Susan Redman’s Love Shacks from the library and have enjoyed gushing over the photos (including one of my faves which is on my list to visit - Love & Mutiny). What has also been really fun is giving my 11-year old daughter the book to review and listening to her commentary on the different architectural/design choices!
Nothing new under the sun: Australia’s long history of missed chances to build sustainable homes
For those in SA, this interactive flood awareness map is a useful tool for getting insights into flood risk for your existing or new home [thanks to a fellow Homee for sharing in the HOME Method community].
The recent devastating LA bushfires have highlighted how important it is to design homes with climate resilience and disasters (flood, fire, heavy storms) in mind. The Undercover Architect has an entire podcast season on rebuilding (and building better) after fires.
I’d not considered cork for internal linings (other than flooring) but I think it looks great in this beautiful sustainable shipping container home.
More design inspo in these images of another great Austin Maynard Architects project. I especially like the unique pergola design/detail which looks like it’ll eventually be covered in a deciduous vine.
